TAPPED IN technology currently supports the online activities of more than twenty TPD, pre-service, master's degree programs, and state and local education agencies, as well as scores of small local groups from around the globe. Our current partners include: ACCESS, which stands for Alternative, Community, and Correctional Education Schools and Services, provides educational options to diverse student populations referred by local school districts, probation, and social services. Blazing Learning Trails marries the best current research in effective professional development with high-quality course curriculum and teaching methodologies. BLT takes learners from an initial entry into the use of technology through adoption, adaption, appropriation, and innovation for three main areas of competence: Essential Technology, Engaged Learning, and the Illinois Learning Standards. DoDEA (The Department of Defense Education Activity) provides schooling for children of military personnel overseas. Galef Institute is a nonprofit educational organization whose primary goal is to work with educators in public schools, schools of education, and other reform agencies to improve student achievement by strengthening the teaching profession. ICONnect, an initiative of the American Association of School Librarians, supports school library media specialists as they assume leadership positions in the use of the Internet in the school community. Joe Rindone Regional Technology Center at the SDCOE (San Diego County Office of Education) is an unprecedented partnership of schools, businesses, community organizations, and higher education working together to use technology to shape the future of San Diego County's schools. Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network 21st Century Education Initiative's mission is "to spark a local educational renaissance-- a new community commitment to build a world-class educational system that enables all students in Silicon Valley to be successful, productive citizens in the 21st century." Lawrence Hall of Science is a public science museum and a center for teacher education, research, and curriculum development at the University of California, Berkeley. Lennox School District serves six schools outside the Los Angeles area. Their goal is to create a positive learning environment and help prepare students for successful participation in society. Los Angeles County Office of Education Technology for Learning (TFL) Initiative was created in June 1995 to position Los Angeles County schools as national leaders in access to and use of educational technology by the year 2000. This initiative is designed to provide all learners with the workplace skills that will ensure success in a global economy. Math Forum is a virtual center for math education on the Internet, based at Swarthmore College. MathStar MathStar is a five year Star Schools Project funded through the United States Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement. MathStar seeks to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in middle schools through the use of interactive technologies. MERET (Mentoring for Expanding Reading Expertise through Technology) supports reading teachers through hands-on standards-based training. MMAP Project (Middle School Math through Applications Program) began as a curriculum development and research project and is housed at Wested. Over the Years, MMAP has grown to encompass a number of programs for young people, parents and teachers which showcase inclusive approaches to mathematics learning. The Museum of Tolerance has offered resources to educators for many years. Their Teaching Steps to Tolerance (TST) program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, offers workshops to fifth and sixth grade teachers and library media specialists from all over the United States. These lessons will help teachers design literature-based lessons that create a positive classroom environment, reflect the needs of the students they teach, promote academic success, and engage students in activities that lead to personal awareness of tolerance. National Institute for Science Education is helping to define an emerging field of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) education research and development, identify new and more effective teaching practices, and set the research agenda for systemic reform. NCREL (North Cenral Regional Educational Laboratory) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping schools reach their full potential and use technology to improve learning. New Haven Unified School District includes Union City and part of south Hayward, Alameda County, California, and has an enrollment of 13,800 students. The Newport News public school system is committed to the academic success of all students regardless of family structure, income, gender, or ethnic origin, and its mission is to provide them with the opportunity to achieve full development of their potential through the acquisition of values, attitudes, knowledge, and skills that are essential to becoming confident and productive adults, enthusiastic lifelong learners, active and constructive participants in the democratic process, and contributing members of their families, communities, nation, and the world. PBS Teacherline and NCTM have combined to form this partnership. PBS Teacherline is a comprehensive, professional development web site designed for college instructors, K-12 teachers, and future teachers. PBS TeacherLine is designed as a source for content, community and collaboration. NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics provides professional development opportunities through annual, regional, and leadership conferences and publishes journals, books, videos, and software. Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology offers three new programs for experienced teachers partly through on-line instruction. The Master of Arts in Educational Technology is an update and major revision of Pepperdine's longstanding educational computing program. The Master of Arts in Teaching as a Profession is based in large part upon the board certification standards and process of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. An Ed Tech Doctoral Program is also offered. Performance Assessment Links in Science (PALS) is an on-line, standards-based, interactive resource bank of K-12 science performance assessments indexed via the National Science Education Standards (NSES) and SCASS Classification plan. PREPTECH is Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology through a grant awarded to the Virginia Educational Technology Alliance. Schwab Foundation for Learning seeks to raise awareness about learning differences and equips parents, teachers, and other professionals with the resources they need to improve the lives of students with learning differences Ventura County encompasses 20 school districts, 3 community colleges, and a four year university that opened its doors for students in the Fall of 1999.Ê Our K-12 public school population approaches an enrollment of 130,000 with educational opportunities as diverse as the districts we serve WebCT offers tools for online course development and management. Other organizations that have used TAPPED IN Education Development Center, WestEd, George Mason University School of Education, University of Michigan School of Education, Michigan State University School of Education, Geological Society of America, Gannon College, California State University, Sacramento, Kentucky Department of Education, and ED's Oasis. |
